Job Description: Manage a staff of artists including Junior-Senior Level Artists, Lead Artists, Art Directors, and Technical Artists Develop annual plan for artist training programs and oversee overall group capabilities. Mentor artists in leadership, skill development, and quality standards. Develop individual career paths through goal planning and positioning for success. Oversee the hiring of artists. Active participation in portfolio reviews, technical screens, and on-site interviews. Work with Human Resources/Recruiter to facilitate rapid positioning for project and company needs. Develop the art direction capabilities of lead artists for smaller projects and art directors for larger projects. Collaborate with peer art group manager to develop and improve the effectiveness of the project review process within the art group. Collaborate with peer art group manager to develop annual plans and objectives for the group Model and reinforce professional attitudes and relationships with clients among staff. Provide advocacy for artist needs and development. Collaborate with production management to develop plans to address common issues. Facilitate idea and process sharing among artists. Responsibilities: Meet regularly with other managers to communicate art needs and issues, and to plan for implementation. Work with individual artists to identify and agree on annual objectives. Track success/progress through 1:1 meetings throughout the year.. Perform year-end performance evaluations. Monitor performance on a project by project and quarterly basis. Ensure appropriate documentation. At least twice a year develop and execute annual development plan for the art group. (through training, resource planning and global art community forums). Research industry standards, and work with peer managers to develop a strategy to increase the company's artistic quality. Work directly with production management to communicate customer and company goals for artistic standards. Develop group plans for increasing art skills, training, tools needs and internal relationships. Hiring of new artists and retaining key performers within the company. Qualifications: Must have 10 or more years experience in game development in an artistic leadership capacity. 5 Years direct experience in a leadership capacity: employee selection, performance management and goal setting, coaching and training/development. Must possess a solid knowledge of production life cycles and demands. Must possess a solid knowledge of various art processes from art-related industries, such as traditional film or animation. Must have a passion for sharing and mentoring art methodologies with fellow artists. Ability to communicate. Strong written and verbal skills.
