Job Title: Creative Director/Production Artist
Company: Location: New York City, NY
Description:
Established Upper West Side screenprinting and embroidery shop seeks a creative director/production artist for immediate hire.
We are a smaller shop specializing in quick turnaround on custom orders. Our clients range from neighborhood residents to multi-billion dollar corporations, TV networks, ad / public relations agencies, and print media. We receive a wide range of orders, so things are never dull!
Candidates should meet the following requirements:
-- Working knowledge of the screenprinting process. I know that many people took a screenprinting class in college, but there is no time for "experimentation" in this position. Ideally, you should have a bit of experience screenprinting in a professional production environment. Please understand the basics of screen prep, printing, curing, and reclamation, as you will probably be lending a hand in the printing process from time to time. Being a small shop, we wear a lot of hats around here, and everyone pitches in where needed.
-- Proficient knowledge of Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop. THIS IS A MUST. You should be able to color separate artwork for both spot-color printing and 4 color process printing. Must understand the use of halftones. We aren't looking for offset or web designers. We need someone with the ability to create and color separate artwork specifically for the screenprinting process. You will also be dealing with a lot of client-supplied artwork that is not ready for print, so you will spend a fair bit of time "cleaning up" artwork to make it ready for production.
-- Technical knowledge of screenprinting inks and special print processes will be of great use. Not required, but again, a big help.
-- Good general knowledge of type styles is welcome. We have a large typeface library, and finding what you need quickly and efficiently is a big plus.
-- Efficient self-starting and workflow management. You won't have your hand held here. We work under constant deadline as we have jobs due every production day. The ability to juggle multiple jobs and clients is an absolute MUST. Again, we specialize in fast turnaround times for our clients, so you need to be able to handle rush situations.
-- FLEXIBILITY. Being based in Manhattan, our space is limited and we work in close quarters. A positive mental attitude and the mindset of maintaining the flow of the shop is crucial. We have a great time working with each other, but when it comes down to business, we go hard.
-- Good phone, email, and interpersonal skills. You'll be dealing with clients all day long. Also, a main part of your job is working as the go-between for the sales/management team and the print/production team.
-- A big plus, but not required, is a basic understanding of digitizing artwork for embroidery. We have a full-time embroiderer who can make art ready for embroidery, but having an extra hand is always helpful. The software we use should have an easy learning curve for those familiar with Illustrator.
THIS IS A FULL TIME PERMANENT POSITION WITH BENEFITS
Look forward to hearing from you.
Harvey Paulvin, President & CEO
