The Department of Asian Studies at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa seeks an Educational Media and Design Specialist to assist in the production of digital, print, and online materials for the Asian American and Pacific Islander Environmental Humanities and Environmental Justice initiative.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Create short videos and a photo archive of program activities;

  2. Support the design, creation and/or digitization of pedagogical resources and instructional materials for collegiate courses;

  3. Assist in the development and digitization of online teaching modules;

  4. Assist with the design and maintenance and content updates for the initiatives website and digital platforms as needed;

  5. Layout, design and produce print components of pedagogical materials;

  6. Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Possession of a baccalaureate in any field

  2. Considerable working knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques in the area of media design as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of pertinent standard and evolving concepts, principles, and methodologies

  3. Proficiency with word processing, graphic design, or web-design software such as Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, WordPress, Cascade CMS or Canva.

  4. Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally, and through visual media

  5. Demonstrated ability to resolve wide ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective, innovative and timely manner

  6. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team members and individuals

  7. Ability to work independently

Desirable Qualifications:

  1. Baccalaureate degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, Multimedia Design, Digital Media, or other related field.

  2. At least three years of professional experience in web and/or interactive design.

  3. Proficiency with WordPress website hosting

  4. Demonstrated ability to work with multi-media platforms. Strong layout and design skills, including familiarity with software and equipment used for these tasks.

  5. Familiarity with Asian and Pacific Islander communities in and beyond Hawaii.
