The New Art Center is amunity art education space which offers everyone exceptional opportunities to make, exhibit, view, think about and talk about art.

Position Summary: The Summer Art Program at the New Art Center seeks talented, creative and inspiring art teachers for teens in grades 6-12. The program consists of ten week-long sessions, beginning Monday, June 22 and ending on Friday, August 28, 2026 (NAC is closed July 3). The camp day is split between two sessions, our AM session lasts from 10am-1pm and our PM session lasts from 2pm-5pm. All Summer Faculty will work with and be supported by the Summer Program Coordinator, Education and Camp Manager and Senior TAs.

Our Teen Programs for Grades 6-12 consist of two specialty areas:2D/Mixed Media, and Clay. Teen programs are designed for students who wish to develop fundamental art skills while increasing their artistic talents, visual vocabulary, and critical thinking skills. The curriculum is challenging and flexible, offering plenty of opportunity for self-expression and discovery. Each week will finish with an installation of work that will be part of a cumulative teen exhibition, which grows throughout the summer. Class blocks are three hours long, with a lunch break mid-day.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Plan and deliver engaging, curriculum-aligned art instruction in either 2D/Mixed Media or Clay for teens in grades 6-12, facilitating three-hour class blocks across AM (10am-1pm) and PM (2pm-5pm) sessions throughout the ten-week summer program.

Develop flexible, differentiated lesson plans that build fundamental art skills while encouraging self-expression, critical thinking, and visual literacy, amodating a range of skill levels and learning styles within each weekly session.

Guide students in producingpleted works each week that meet a standard suitable for installation, contributing to a cumulative teen exhibition that grows and evolves across the full summer program.

Foster a safe, inclusive, and creatively stimulating classroom environment that motivates teen students to take artistic risks, collaborate with peers, and develop their individual artistic voice and identity

Qualifications:

An experienced, creative teacher with demonstrated passion for developing and teaching art projects for students in grades 6-12.

Ability to manage students with a range of learning styles and personalities

A dependable, energetic person who can function as part of a team responsible for the safety and positive engagement of up to 40 children daily

Ability to plan ahead,municate with Summer Program Coordinator and execute on the plan, while maintaining a flexible, patient, and supportive attitude towards students and colleagues

A positive, helpful attitude and friendly etiquette with students, parents, counselors, faculty and staff

THINGS TO NOTE

Teachers with the necessary skills, experience and passion who are able tomit to the full 10-week program will be given priority, but partial seasonal applicants are wee too.

Orientation, first aid, and mental health training will be provided prior to the first week. Training will be repeated twice during the summer for partial-season faculty and staff. Orientation will be provided for all faculty.

CORI clearance and proof of ability to work legally in the US will be required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires the ability to remain active throughout the day, including standing and walking for extended periods, moving between classrooms and outdoor spaces, and frequently going up and down stairs. Responsibilities include setting up and breaking down classrooms, which may involve lifting and moving chairs, tables, and art supplies. The New Art Center's studios and classrooms are located on multiple levels and are not currently ADA accessible, and staff must be able to navigate stairs regularly as part of their daily responsibilities.
