Northfield Mount Hermon School, an independent co-educational boarding school in Western Massachusetts, seeks an energetic individual to serve as the Costume Designer for the Performing Arts department, collaborating with students and fellow teaching artists to produce a full season of dance, music, and theater events. This position begins in August for the 2026-2027 academic year.
Northfield Mount Hermon has a state-of-the-art facility that includes a 220-seat End-Stage theater, a 90-seat studio theater, a 250-seat concert hall, and large scene and costume shops. The Costume Designer is responsible for the costuming of all productions.
The successful applicant will have a bachelors degree or higher in Theater Arts, Theatrical Costume Design, or a related discipline, with experience in the professional theater industry. Skills needed include sewing, fabric dying, costume construction, and alterations. The position also involves managing a team of students as part of the schools work program. Experience as a teacher at a secondary level is preferred.
Candidates should have an interest in making a positive impact on the lives of adolescents. They will demonstrate experience in equity and inclusion work that promotes a diverse community environment and a clear understanding of anti-bias education.
The stipend for this position is $23,000.
