Job Title: Technical Motion Designer
Location: Seattle, WA
Duration: 3 Months with possibility of Extension/Conversion
About the Role
Client's Visual Systems team is seeking a highly skilled Technical Motion Designer to help create next-generation interactive motion experiences for Alexa product surfaces. This role combines motion design, interaction design, and engineering, requiring someone who can bridge creative vision with technical implementation using Rive technology.
The contractor will work closely with a team of world-class visual and motion designers within the Alexa Surfaces Visual UX organization.
Key Responsibilities
Build and implement interactive animations using Rive across product surfaces
Translate motion concepts into production-ready assets
Own animation logic, state machines, and databinds within Rive
Optimize animations for performance, scalability, and reusability
Help define best practices for motion implementation using Rive
Build tools that enable designers to modify Rive files at runtime
Collaborate closely with design and engineering teams to integrate animations into real products
Daily Breakdown
75% - Interactive animation development and implementation using Rive
25% - Performance optimization, tooling, scalability, and reusable systems
Team & Environment
Reports to the Visual UX team within Alexa Surfaces
Collaborates with approximately 20 visual and motion designers
Weekly 1:1s with hiring manager and daily team collaboration
Access to prototype devices and participation in on-site design reviews

Required Skills & Experience
Must-Have Qualifications
Hands-on experience with Rive, including:
State machines
Advanced databinds and logic
Complex interactive animation systems
(Minimum 1+ year of Rive experience required)
Strong understanding of animation principles:
Timing
Easing
Choreography
Experience integrating animation into shipped products in collaboration with engineering teams
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with React, React Native, or similar frameworks
Familiarity with tools such as After Effects
Experience building reusable motion or design systems
Interest in real-time, generative, or interactive animation
Strong front-end development skills using JavaScript or TypeScript
Candidate Profile
7-10+ years of experience in motion design, UX motion, or interactive animation
Able to work independently with minimal oversight
Comfortable collaborating directly with engineering teams
Creative degree preferred
