You will support interior projects from initial concept through construction, balancing strong design sensibilities with robust technical documentation. The position suits designers with experience in commercial interiors such as aviation, technology, workplace, life sciences, biotech, or similar sectors, who are eager to work on impactful spaces and grow within a collaborative, design-driven studio.

Responsibilities

  • Support interior design projects from early concept development through construction, ensuring design intent carries through all phases.
  • Lead and execute space planning strategies that optimize functionality, user experience, and clinical or technical workflows where applicable.
  • Develop and refine conceptual design ideas, including mood boards, narratives, and visual presentations for client review.
  • Select and specify materials, finishes, fixtures, and equipment (FF&E) that align with project goals, performance requirements, and budget.
  • Produce detailed design documentation across schematic design (SD), design development, and construction document phases.
  • Create and coordinate construction documents, including plans, elevations, details, and schedules, ensuring clarity and constructability.
  • Collaborate closely with multi-disciplinary teams, including architects, engineers, consultants, and other stakeholders on complex projects.
  • Coordinate with consultants to integrate building systems, code requirements, and technical constraints into cohesive interior solutions.
  • Support construction administration activities, including responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals, and assisting with change management.
  • Participate in and sometimes lead client presentations, clearly communicating design concepts, options, and recommendations.
  • Engage with clients and user groups to understand needs, workflows, and operational requirements, particularly in healthcare and technical environments.
  • Contribute to design leadership within the studio by mentoring junior designers and providing feedback on design and documentation quality.
  • Incorporate healthcare-specific considerations such as patient safety, infection control, and clinical workflows when applicable.
  • Help manage project timelines, milestones, and deliverables, supporting adherence to schedules and budgets.
  • Ensure design solutions comply with applicable codes and standards, including accessibility, life safety, and healthcare regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with project teams on change management processes, documenting and communicating design revisions throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Participate in internal design reviews and critiques to continuously elevate project quality and innovation.
  • Support multiple projects and levels of complexity simultaneously, adjusting to varying degrees of client-facing and technical responsibilities.
  • Travel to project sites or client offices as needed and accommodate occasional overtime to meet project deadlines.
Essential Skills
  • Bachelors degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or a closely related field.
  • Professional experience working on complex, multi-stakeholder interior projects, ideally in commercial or technical environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to balance strong conceptual design skills with solid technical execution and documentation.
  • Proficiency in Revit for interior design and documentation workflows.
  • Experience designing commercial interiors, such as corporate workplaces, aviation, science and technology, life sciences, or similar sectors.
  • Strong space planning capabilities, including programming and layout development for complex user groups.
  • Hands-on experience producing schematic design, construction documents, and detailed interior drawings.
  • Familiarity with construction administration tasks, including RFIs, submittal review, and change management processes.
  • Ability to coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams and integrate consultant input into cohesive design solutions.
  • Effective client communication skills, including presenting design concepts and responding to feedback.
  • Experience managing or contributing to multi-disciplinary teams on complex healthcare projects.
  • Proven experience supporting or owning project budgets, schedules, and fee management responsibilities.
  • Working knowledge of healthcare regulatory standards, including accessibility requirements, life safety codes, and clinical design requirements.
  • Comfort working across all design phases, from concept through construction, in a client-facing capacity.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Healthcare project experience, particularly in environments with clinical workflows, patient safety considerations, and infection control strategies.
  • NCIDQ certification or progress toward certification.
  • LEED accreditation or a demonstrated willingness to obtain a sustainability-related credential.
  • Experience with healthcare design expertise, including understanding of clinical operations and patient-centered environments.
  • Background in aviation, technology, corporate workplace, life sciences, biotech, or other technical project types.
  • Experience leading design concepts, visual storytelling, and design presentations for clients and internal teams.
  • Prior involvement in mentoring junior designers or contributing to studio design culture.
  • Comfort working on projects with global or multi-location clients and diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Interest in long-term career growth in healthcare, aviation, workplace, and other specialized sectors.
  • Openness to occasional travel and overtime to support project needs and client engagements.
